Are you thinking about moving to Valparaiso, Indiana?

If you’re looking for an incredibly welcoming community with top ranked schools, a great downtown, and loads of activities, then Valpo might be the place for you!

In this blog I’m going to give you my top 5 reasons to move to Valpo, and make sure you stick around for my #1 reason which will give you all the feels!

If we haven’t met yet, I am Anna Kenney, a local Valparaiso Realtor and expert on my hometown.

Alright, here are my top 5 reasons to move to Valpo…

#5: Valpo's Downtown

I’ve lived in big cities with great restaurants, and can honestly say that Valpo’s rival some of them. We have big city menus with Indiana prices. Plus, there are great stores, quaint coffee shops, and awesome events that take place in our Central Park downtown. There is a ton going on, especially during the summer, so much so that I’m doing a blog next week on Things to do during the Summer in Valpo, so keep an eye out for that and I’ll elaborate more.

#4: Valpo schools

In the state of Indiana, schools are given a ranking A-F, with A of course being the highest rating. Valparaiso school corporation consistently scores an A year after year. Our schools are incredible, and rank similarly to some of the top Illinois suburbs. There is a ton more to unpack about our schools, so look out for a blog in a few weeks where I break down the different school corporations in the greater Valparaiso area.

#3: valpo parks

We have 20 different fun & beautiful parks in Valparaiso, AND our Valpo Parks Department does SO much more beyond the big job of maintaining these great places. They have a long list of different programs to get involved in, like youth & adult sports, enrichment programs like arts & craft, summer camps, they maintain 2 municipal golf courses in town, and host lots of special events throughout the year for little kids, big kids, teens, adults, and seniors. They do a phenomenal job making our town look gorgeous, and enriching the community.

#2: valpo's location

About an hour away from Chicago, Valpo gets a ton of Chicago transplants moving over to our neck of the woods. You get that small town feel, but you're just a quick drive, train ride, or bus ride into the city for work or dinner. Heading straight north about 10 miles, the beach at the Indiana Dunes is a great spot in the summer to play, swim, and hike the trails. Heading east, Valpo is about 30 miles from the Indiana/Michigan border. New Buffalo, Michigan has become a hot spot for tourists and locals alike. It’s a great day trip spot for us in Valpo, offering beautiful beaches, fun shops and restaurants. If you’re hungry, make sure to check out Redamak’s famous burgers.

And finally my top reason...drum roll...

#1: valpo's community

I was born and raised in NWI, but moved to West Lafayette for college (Boiler Up!), and then to Columbus Ohio for 5 years, and onto Chicago for another few. We made our way to Valpo when we knew we wanted a house, a yard, and some kids. We have been here for 6 years now and can honestly say that this is the first place that has truly felt like home. Why? The people and the community. There is honestly just no other place like this one. The people are so incredibly helpful and friendly and I’m convinced that when people talk about Midwestern hospitality, it had to have originated here. From our neighborhood community, to the schools, to our church. It just really feels like a best kept secret. There are a ton of transplants here, and those that are new or those that have left all say the same thing: There is just no other place quite like Valpo. It’s a really, really special place.

Now that you're completely sold on moving to Valparaiso, Indiana, you may be interested in hearing about the happenings around town. In my next blog, I'll share my top 5 favorite things to do in Valpo in the summer.
